Epocrates will offer an EHR for small group practices #HIMSS10

Epocrates Builds on Point of Care Innovations to Enter EHR Market

Company Developing Easy, Affordable Solution for Solo and Small Group Physician Practices
HIMSS 2010
SAN MATEO, Calif.--(EON: Enhanced Online News)--Building on its leadership in providing innovative mobile medical reference tools for physicians, Epocrates, Inc. announced today that it will soon enter the electronic health records (EHR) market with the development of a new EHR solution. The company is designing a mobile and web-based offering that meets the unique needs of solo and small group physician practices. This news comes as executives and vendors convene at the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) annual conference and exhibition in Atlanta, Ga. to advance the future of health information technology (HIT).
For more than a decade, Epocrates has been driving the adoption of information technology in healthcare with its popular mobile drug reference. More than 900,000 clinicians worldwide rely on Epocrates in their practices to improve patient safety and care, and enhance practice efficiency. As the leader in point-of-care medical technology, Epocrates is designing an EHR solution to address small practices’ most important needs – ease of use and affordability.

“This was a logical next step for Epocrates,” said Rose Crane, chief executive officer of Epocrates. “Our understanding of how physicians work and what they need at the point of care is the foundation of our success. We owe it to our loyal physician subscribers to create an EHR solution that will work smoothly within their practices and allow them to continue caring for patients.”

The Epocrates EHR solution will serve the more than 50 percent of U.S. physicians who work in solo and small group practices. It will feature Epocrates’ gold-standard drug and safety content, and will address physicians’ requirements for an EHR solution that is:
  • Easy to learn and use with minimal practice disruption
  • Accessible at the point of care and on demand for convenient patient data entry
  • Affordable via a web-hosted, customizable offering with low up-front investment that will meet “meaningful use” and HIPAA compliance requirements
“Epocrates has been with physicians from the beginning of the HIT evolution, and we are excited to go to the next level together,” said Crane. “Our offering will help ease the technology migration and improve efficiencies for their offices, while keeping them focused on what they know and love best – practicing medicine.”

The Epocrates EHR solution will be released in the fourth quarter of 2010. Visit Epocrates in the HIMSS10 exhibit hall at booth #2544 or register at www.epocrates.com/ehr to receive updates.
