WHO agency reports that mobile phones may cause brain cancer

The World Health Organization's International Agency for Research on Cancer is reporting that mobile phones may increase the risk of brain cancer. The agency classified the risk of the adiofrequency electromagnetic fields as "possibly carcinogenic to humans."

Dr Jonathan Samet (University of Southern California, USA), overall Chairman of the Working Group, indicated that "the evidence, while still accumulating, is strong enough to support a conclusion and the 2B classification. The conclusion means that there could be some risk, and therefore we need to keep a close watch for a link between cell phones and cancer risk.

  1. Most industry sponsored studies say cellphones don't cause cancer. But all cellphones come with warnings of not using it near your head or keep distance and stuff (even the IPhone). Most non industry sponsored studies say cellphones do/might cause cancer. It wouldn't surprise us if they actually do. After all, industry touted tobacco as safe, why wouldn't they do the same now? And even more, what else can we do? Can we stop living the wireless life or should we die trying?

  2. But some advocacy groups contend the study raised serious concerns because it showed a hint of a possible link between very heavy phone use and a rare but often deadly form of brain tumor.some experts believe the evidence, inconclusive as it is, warrants caution.thanks for sharing this information, very helpful info.

  3. I think this is kind of issue is nonsense. The WHO is mistaken. Cell phones do not produce enough radioactive energy to do any damage. And as far as I know, no study has ever shown any negative impact from cell phone use. If there were any danger of cancer, we’d have seen a huge spike in such cancers given the increased cell phone usage over the last two decades. There has been none. I can’t explain the WHO announcement, but will wait for more know legible people to comment. Right now, I think its garbage.

  4. Without conclusive evidence, this seems like a scam designed to get people to buy hands free equipment. This was just confirmed as they rolled out a pseudo expert on NBC news who said something like "if you are worried, go hands free".

  5. Mobile phones don't give you brain tumors. There is no mechanism by which they *could* give you brain tumors. It just simply cannot happen. Mobile phones do not make your brain heat up, except in as much as they get warm in use because they're drawing more power from the battery. Holding an insulated plastic box to your ear makes your brain heat up, because it insulates one side of your head. You'd be amazed how much heat your head radiates off. If you block that heat radiation, your head will warm up. This is how hats work. It's not exactly difficult, you know.

  6. Obviously there is a small probability that cell phones cause cancer. However, there's no known mechanism for them to contribute to cancer and there's no good statistical evidence that they have anything to do with cancer.

  7. WHO is way too late with this, as always. One Australian brain surgeon warned about the risk years ago, based on scientific research they did down under, so WHO now says that there´s SOME indication. There’s OBVIOUS link between cell phone use & brain tumors. They just develop o9ver the course of years so WHO might be waiting for increase in cancer cases in their trials decades from now. This just proves WHO holds the WHO strings. Thanks for sharing this informative post. Very helpful!
