mHealth Alliance Announces Premiere Membership Opportunity

Membership Open to Organizations with a Vested Interest in Mobile Health

WASHINGTON, DC (February 1, 2012) – The mHealth Alliance announced today that it is offering membership to institutions and organizations that are actively engaged in, or interested in, mobile health (mHealth) across all sectors. The Alliance is building a coalition of members to openly exchange knowledge, advocate solutions, and drive collective action to advance mHealth around the world.

“We know the mHealth field spreads across multiple sectors and cross-cutting areas,” said Patty Mechael, Executive Director of the mHealth Alliance. “We want to engage these stakeholders to accelerate mutual learning, networking, and collaboration. By mobilizing organizations with a common interest in and vision for mHealth, we believe we will accelerate the advancement of mobile technologies in a way that improves health outcomes and systems – especially in remote areas where health information and access is severely limited.”

There is no fee to become a member of the mHealth Alliance. Members will have access to platforms for collaboration and communication with other members who share common interests in mHealth, and opportunities to participate in Alliance events, working groups, and communities of practice on Health Unbound (HUB), the Alliance’s interactive network and online knowledge resource center for the mHealth community.

Membership applications are now being accepted online at mHealthAlliance.org/membership. As part of the application process, applicants will be asked to describe their interest and programming in mHealth, and to agree to basic principles that govern the mHealth Alliance’s collaborations in this field. In addition, applicants will be asked to submit a letter of support to the mHealth Alliance to complete the application.

“Building a community around the mHealth movement has long been a personal dream of mine,” commented Mechael. “I’m excited that the mHealth Alliance can serve as a convener in helping realize this dream to mainstream mHealth into public health and health service delivery systems. It will take the collective action of governments; donors; NGOs; academic institutions; policy making bodies such as WHO and ITU; and the private sector, including telecommunications and pharmaceutical companies, to bring this dream to fruition. I hope you will all join me by becoming members of the Alliance.”
