BlackBerry Storm 2 reviewed

Have you read all the reviews for the BlackBerry Storm 2?

CNET, CrackBerry, Brighthand, Gizmodo, and PC Magazine seem to come to the top of the Google list. I like the review by Gizmodo because it's actually a summary of multiple reviews (although it seems like they have a typo regarding the CNET review which is 3.5 out of 5 stars or "very good")

So, what do you think about the new BlackBerry Storm 2? Are you impressed? Was it worth the upgrade? If I were a health care professional using the older Storm, I would upgrade mainly because you really need more internal RAM for all those medical apps. If you're a pure business user, then 128 MB of RAM for apps is plenty. The same isn't true for medical students and physicians.

Verizon HTC Touch Pro2 reviewed by CNET

Here is the CNET review on the Verizon Wireless HTC Touch Pro2 (embedded video):
Here's the summary:
The good: The HTC Touch Pro2 for Verizon offers world roaming capabilities as well as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, and EV-DO Rev. A support. The smartphone features an extra-large touch screen and one of the best QWERTY keyboards we've seen to date. Verizon will also provide an Windows Mobile 6.5 upgrade later this year.

The bad: The smartphone is bulky. Callers complained of tinny call quality, and the camera took poor pictures.

The bottom line: For Verizon's business customers who need more than just a messaging smartphone, the HTC Touch Pro2 delivers with more robust productivity tools and good performance.

iPhone: global trends and the U.S.

The Apple iPhone is currently only available through AT&T as a GSM phone in the U.S. Verizon Wireless is currently the largest wireless provider in this country, but it operates on a CDMA network. Although Verizon has a few select "world phones" that are capable of both CDMA and GSM, the majority of their devices operate on CDMA.

On CNET, there's a fascinating story titled, "Is AT&T losing its grip on the iPhone?" The same story is also republished on CNN.

I find the global trends the most interesting part of this story. Will China sell 3 million iPhones next year in China if they offer the iPhone on multiple networks? What about in other countries? If Apple is moving away from exclusivity arrangements with wireless providers, then it's only a matter of time before the iPhone becomes available on other carriers here in the U.S. The big question is: what kind of time frame are we looking at? We've heard many rumors about the iPhone coming to Verizon Wireless. If the iPhone becomes readily available, will it dominate the medical smartphone market? I think it will.
